The image is a time line of my cellphone history. Each section, blocked off into 500x500 px squares (marked with black brackets). Each section was completed one at a time and should be able to stand as it's own when viewed by itself. I did try to bring some element from previous sections as a way to unify the project as a whole. While i briefly talked about each section with in the image, I'd like to describe them a little bit more. Section 1: The time i got my first phone was right before sophomore year in high school. The school was newly built, and the phone was newly purchased (thanks mom!). The three elements where taken separately and specifically for the contest keeping in mind the side of the light source. I converted the photos to vector to give the images the look they have now. As stated, this is a time line, so i put a actual time line on the bottom, using orange to show the start time of ownership. I used blue and orange as they are complimentary colors. The phone, with the sun beam effect coming from it, was meant as a source of happy emotions, much like how sunny weather represents happiness, contrary to cloudy weather represents gloom. Section 2: So next is the Nokia 3395. Most of the background color elements are just extruded from the previous image. The orange from the time line not only serves as a place to put the text (still using complimentary colors), but also as a throwback to what i did a lot on the phone, play snake (i know the snake didn't curve). The phone is photo of my actual phone. Section 3: N-Gage, often commented on its resemblance to a taco and the fact that you talk on its side, and later fixed in the later N-Gage QD. I took the taco idea and composed it to an actual taco phone. This time i brought the colors straight across, and keeping with the taco theme, blended in photos images of taco ingredients, ground beef, guacamole, sour cream, and blue tortilla chips (not an ingredient, but it is a side served with tacos). The font colors were taken from the N-Gage logo, and the text font was chosen for its similar feel. Section 4: Other phone's I've owned since the N-Gage. The colorful stripes quickly fade to nothing, while the rest of the image is dark a gloomy (opposite the feeling of section 1). The photo is taken to gray scale to remove all color, and the levels were changed to darken the image. Another layer of gloom was added in another layer, on top of most of the text, with the center just a bit lighter that the rest. "OTHER PHONES" is in the center, brighter, and bigger as a way to label the section. Section 5: No phone here. This section is a segue from the darkness in the previous slide to the mood leading up to the final section. The transition is to a feeling of hope, conveyed by upward view to the sky. The bottom right has a building to help show the upward view. The last line of text is unfinished, but is continued in the last section. Section 6: The future. And here we are, the N97 in all its glory, surrounded with a number of its features. The background is a continuation of the source photo from the previous section. The word "FUTURE" is all capitalized to emphasize it self, and is the last word of the previous image's unfinished sentence. A White gradient is set under the phone and text as sort of a cloud for it to sit on. This is again part of the upward view we look toward it. |
